Equine Acupuncture Program Outline

This 130-hour C.E. program (RACE/State approved) is presented in 4 sessions over a period of 6 months. Offered only to licensed veterinarians. Students will learn acupuncture points only on horses. Primarily horses are used for practice in the wet labs.

Major Topics  
 
  • Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Principles: Five Elements, Yin-Yang, Eight Principles, Zang-fu Physiology and Pathology, Meridians and Channels.
     
  • How to understand acupuncture: scientific basis.
     
  • 120 Transpositional equine acupuncture points: wet lab demonstration & hands on.
     
  • 100 Classical equine acupuncture points: wet lab demonstration & hands on.
     
  • How to needle the acupuncture points in horses.
     
  • TCM diagnosis systems including tongue & pulse diagnosis.
     
  • How to integrate acupuncture into your practice.
     
  • How to use veterinary acupuncture to diagnose and treat:
     

    1. Musculoskeletal conditions, lameness and neurological disorders.
    2. Cardiovascular diseases and respiratory disorders.
    3. Gastrointestinal disorders and behavioral problems.
    4. Dermatological problems and immune-mediated diseases.
    5. Renal & urinary disorders and reproductive disorders.

     
  • Veterinary acupuncture techniques:
     

    1. Dry Needle (conventional needling).
    2. Aqu-Acupuncture (point injection).
    3. Electro-Acupuncture.
    4. Hemo-Acupuncture.
    5. Pneumo-Acupuncture.
    6. Moxibustion

    Program Features
    1. Learn from the Master, Dr. huisheng Xie, ("The leading authority in the animal acupuncture.", quoted from CBS News Early Show, Dec 28th, 2005). Dr. Xie's twenty-three years of TCVM teaching experience (over 3000 students) has provided him with a clear vision of how to aid a student.
    2. Limited seats, small lab group (5-6 members with one TA in a group), more hands-on learning in the wet lab.
    3. 130 C.E. hours (RACE/State approved).
    4. Free case consultation with TCVM experts for all students.
    5. Awarded the Certificate of Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist registered at the Chi Institute and the China National Society of TCVM after fulfilling all requirements.
    6. Practicality is highly emphasized during the entire program. The goal of each session is:
      • Session 1: Practice on own animals (cook book)
      • Session 2: Practice on client patients
      • Session 3: More efficiently practice acupuncture
      • Session 4: Daily integration of acupuncture
    7. Balanced Learning Environments: Qi-gong or Tai-ji practice at the start of each day.
